Sultan School District
K-8 Math Adoption
Parent Input - March 5 and 6, 2015
Sultan School District is in the process of adopting new math instructional materials, and we are asking for your input. Our district is in need of new math instructional materials to align with the Math Common Core State Standards, K-8. With the adoption of the Math Common Core State Standards in the State of Washington, our students need instructional materials and experiences to align with new mathematical expectations. Without proper instructional materials, our students will be unprepared to be successful in the future.
Parents and community members are invited to see a collection of math materials being considered by the district for adoption on March 5 and 6, during parent conferences. These materials are currently being piloted by teachers throughout the district, and these teachers will also provide input on the quality and alignment of the materials in our effort to align instruction with the Common Core State Standards.
Materials will be available in libraries at Gold Bar Elementary, Sultan Elementary, and Sultan Middle Schools. Parents are also encouraged to complete parent/community member input forms, which provide the district with important information to assist in the adoption process. In addition to viewing the materials, parents and community members are also invited to observe instruction using the materials in classrooms during the regular school day.
If you are interested in observing piloted materials during instruction, please contact the principals at Gold Bar Elementary, Sultan Elementary, or Sultan Middle School to arrange for an observation visit. These visits must be scheduled prior to the classroom observation, and opportunities are limited.
This is an exciting time for our district, and we encourage you to be part of it by reviewing piloted math materials in your child's school.
